the problem with caries detectors is that they shows you false positive stains, and removing that is actually removing affected dentin and weakening the tooth even more i usually depend on tactile sensation, color, consistency and compare it to adjacent sound dentin

Oral surgeons do this all the time with mandibular thirds. They use a B point (Cogswell) and lever off the B plate. Use a 702 and drill at least 1/3 into the tooth, any shallower and you risk fracturing a small piece of the crown off

so i agree with this for SIP/normal apical tissue dx. what about SIP/symptomatic apical periodontitis? would you still not touch the apical pulp?

1) can you confirm: so the first time you inject was that below the MGJ or above? 2) do you do this technique for 2nd molars? I find it a lot more challenging for 2nd molars as I feel like I hit bone immediately at my buccal infiltration and will often see anesthetic just leaking out of as opposed to actually going inside the tissue. where exactly do you inject the needle for 2nd molars (relative to MGJ please) to minimize this happening? 6:15 , how to tell if two canals converge. A way I like to check is to use two 10-files. Place one to apex. Take the other one, connect to an apex locator, and put in the second canal. If it's short of the apex, but the apex locator is beeping like it's at the apex, it means they converge (even though the "short" file is clearly not at the apex, it is touching the 1st file, which completes the circuit). The reason I like that method is I can now measure the "short" file to see exactly how long that canal is before it converges. Just subscribed to your channel. It's fantastic knowledge!
